When I am at my most weary, that is the time I become overrun by needless burdens and self-imposed mandates to "save the lost," to "be more loving," or to do some other noble and God-pleasing task. The charge is often accompanied by a sense of inadequacy. The question is, how does this help me in any way to fall "less short" of His glory? Well, it doesn't. I sort of think that we as humans have this need to feel there is something we can do, and while it's true that faith without works is dead, where are these works stemming from? What is the source? You know that time when multitudes of people are hounding Jesus and He withdraws in order to spend some time with His disciples? But there are all those other times when He teaches the people for hours, praying for them and healing them- then He feeds them all and keeps on going. And then of course those times when He would just escape to a solitary place to be with His Father. There is something to the sensitivity and closeness He had with God. He knew what to do in every situation. And maybe it wasn't always what He felt like doing, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't out of guilt and obligation either.

(Here's where I really start babbling:)

Do you ever get the sense that it's wrong to care so much about the "church" (as in believers)? That we should be more focused on reaching the "world" (unbelievers)? I want to see people come to Jesus- absolutely. But I have a deep passion to see people who have already met Him actually start walking with Him. Going deeper. There is more. Eternal life starts right now. I think it's important to encourage everyone who crosses our path. Why are we so discriminate? Everyone needs Him, right? So much. So let's not suddenly step into "ministry mode" when we encounter a "sinner," as if we have something in and of ourselves to offer. It's so... ungenuine. When we are alone, with our friends, with total strangers... we should be the people we are called to be. There is no separation. How we respond in each situation depends upon the wisdom and sensitivity of our Father. A seamless life of integrity, governed by the Spirit of God. Let's be real. For crying out loud, our projected "righteousness" does not get anyone saved. God does that. Let's be genuine disciples of Christ. Get close to God. Listen to His heartbeat. Let Him fill your mouth with words. And if there aren't any words, then use your heart. Love people. Be real. One drop of a genuine, God-sensitive life is more effective than a bucket of obligatory drivel.
